German has four grammatical cases that determine the form of pronouns, articles, and adjectives:
- Nominative: Subject of the sentence (who/what is doing the action)
- Accusative: Direct object (who/what receives the action directly)
- Dative: Indirect object (to/for whom the action is done)
- Genitive: Shows possession or relationship (whose/of what)
