German Question Words (Fragewörter)
1. Wer (Who) #
Wer is used to ask about people or to identify someone. It refers to the subject of the sentence and changes according to the case (Nominative: wer, Accusative: wen, Dative: wem, Genitive: wessen).
Example: Wer ist das?

2. Was (What) #
Was is used to ask about things, objects, or concepts. It’s one of the most common question words and remains the same in all cases except when used with prepositions.
Example: Was machst du?
- English: What are you doing?
- Hindi: तुम क्या कर रहे हो? (Tum kya kar rahe ho?)
3. Wo (Where) #
Wo asks about location or place. It’s used when you want to know where something or someone is located.
Example: Wo wohnst du?
- English: Where do you live?
- Hindi: तुम कहाँ रहते हो? (Tum kahan rehte ho?)
4. Wohin (Where to) #
Wohin asks about direction or destination. It’s used when asking where someone or something is going.
Example: Wohin gehst du?

5. Woher (Where from) #
Woher asks about origin or source. It’s used to find out where someone or something comes from.
Example: Woher kommst du?
- English: Where do you come from?
- Hindi: तुम कहाँ से आते हो? (Tum kahan se aate ho?)
6. Wann (When) #
Wann is used to ask about time, specifically when something happens or happened. It’s used for specific points in time.
Example: Wann kommst du?
- English: When are you coming?
- Hindi: तुम कब आ रहे हो? (Tum kab aa rahe ho?)
5. Warum (Why) #
Warum asks for reasons or causes. It’s used when you want to understand the motivation or explanation behind something.
Example: Warum lernst du Deutsch?

6. Wie (How) #
Wie asks about manner, method, or degree. It can be used to ask how something is done or to what extent.
Example: Wie geht es dir?

- Hindi: तुम कैसे हो? (Tum kaise ho?)
7. Welcher/Welche/Welches (Which) #
Welcher and its variations ask for a choice between options. It changes according to gender and case of the noun it refers to.
Example: Welches Auto gefällt dir?
- English: Which car do you like?
- Hindi: तुम्हें कौन सी कार पसंद है? (Tumhen kaun si car pasand hai?)
The form changes based on the gender of the noun it refers to.
- Welcher (masculine): Welcher Mann ist dein Bruder?
- Welche (feminine): Welche Frau arbeitet hier?
- Welches (neuter): Welches Kind spielt dort?
8. Wieviel/Wie viel (How much/How many) #
Wieviel or Wie viel asks about quantity or amount. “Wieviel” is often written as two words “wie viel” in modern German.
Example: Wie viel kostet das?
