Separable and Inseparable Verbs (Trennbare und untrennbare Verben) - A2

Many German verbs are made of a prefix + a basic verb: an + rufen = anrufen (to call). With separable verbs (trennbare Verben) the prefix moves to the end of the sentence. With inseparable verbs (untrennbare Verben) the prefix always stays attached.

Separable Prefixes #

Separable prefixes are usually words that also exist on their own (prepositions or adverbs). In speech, the prefix is stressed: ANrufen, AUFstehen.

an- anrufen to call फ़ोन करना
auf- aufstehen to get up उठना
